Where is The Last Resort located?
The Last Resort, under the auspices of The Lagunitas Project, is located in Lagunitas, West Marin County, of Northern California. The 2-acre property, nestled amongst stands of Douglas Fir, and fruit trees, is a laboratory for David Lee Hoffman’s pioneering of ecologically sustainable systems without the use of petrochemicals.
Sourced from a communal wellspring that included such Lagunitas notables as Klaus Kinski, Janis Joplin’s Big Brother & the Holding Company, and Country Joe McDonald & The Fish, David channeled a “wild act of love” into a backbone of eco-systems for living harmoniously on the planet.
In the spirit of the Back-to-the-Earth-Movement, the hand-built complex of buildings, terraces and gardens begun in 1973, could not have been possible without the collaboration of friends from all corners of the world —refugees, artists, poets, monks, and truthseekers.
The Lagunitas Project encourages your future visit to experience The Last Resort’s integrated eco-systems, Tea Ceremony Room, Tibetan Lhakhang (shrine room), Solarium, Greenhouses, Founder’s Residence, Offices, Godown (Asian warehouse), Bell Tower, Gardens, and Open-air Classrooms.
